Changing Your Avatar
New 'do? Go to the Connections Grid and select the portal above your name to go to your profile. In your profile, select the button below the avatar mirror and cycle through the different preset options to switch up your look!
Changing Your Profile Information
Update your info as often as you traverse the Magicverse. Go to the Connections Grid and select the large portal above your name to go to your profile. In your profile, swipe to the left side of the scene and select the text field you'd like to edit.
Changing Your Privacy Settings
Privacy is a huge priority for us, so we want to make sure you have the power to change your preferences as you'd like. On the Connections Grid, select the large portal above your name to go to your profile. In your profile, swipe to the left side of the scene and scroll to the bottom of the text fields to the "Preferences" button. Select 'Preferences' and navigate to the "Privacy" tab.
Changing Online Status
We get it: sometimes you just want to create floating astronauts and DJ-ing cats without interruption. On the Connections Grid and select the button below your name to toggle through different presence options. While your device is turned off, you will appear as “Offline” for other users. While your presence is set to "Invisible" or "Offline," Cast and Chat notifications will be silently ignored and sent to the Activity Log.
Seeing Recent Invites and Activity
Like your mobile phone, you will be able to see all social notifications at once. Go to the Connections Grid and select the "Activity Log" button to see a list of all incoming Cast invites and follower notifications. Unlike your mobile phone, you won't receive any unnecessary Wireless Emergency Alerts.
Filtering Between Followers, Contacts, Etc.
Find your connections by going to the Connections Grid and selecting the drop-down filter button that says 'Following". A drop-down menu will open and you will be able to select different filters.
Viewing Another Person's Bio
See who's who by going to the Connections Grid and selecting that person’s portal. From the available options, select 'Profile' to view their info. If their bio is not visible, they have made this field hidden.
Linking Your Google Account
We like it when worlds collide. To get friend recommendations from other accounts, go to the Connections Grid and select the "Find Friends" button. From there, select "Link Accounts" and choose the account provider you would like to connect. The Helio browser will open up and you will be asked to log into your account. Magic Leap does not store your Google contact information by the way. We only use this information to recommend other ML1 users that you might know from elsewhere.
Avatar Chat is only available on devices running Lumin OS 0.93 or later.
Starting Avatar Chat
From the Social App, select another user’s portal icon. In the "Quick Action"' menu, select "Chat" with that user. To start a group call, select "Group Chat"' from the Connections Grid and select users to add to the Chat. Happy chatting!
UI Mini Map
This is a UI Mini Map of the Chat and displays all users that are in the active Chat. People's positions are displayed relative to one another and track in real-time. This object serves as the origin point for the Chat.
Opening Chat Options
Focus on the UI Mini Map and select the Control’s bumper to open the "Chat Options" menu. Chat Options include actions for yourself and contextual actions for other users in the Chat. Use the Chat Options to end chats, mute, send emojis, see your own appearance, Cast and invite more users to chat. From here, you can also block, mute and follow other users.
Viewing Your Avatar
Focus on the UI Mini Map and select the Control’s bumper to open the "Chat Options" menu. Select the Mirror button and ta-da!
Ending an Avatar Chat Session
Focus on the UI Mini Map and select the Control’s bumper to open Chat Options Menu. Select End Chat button. There are two hardware shortcuts that will also end an Avatar Chat - clicking the bumper twice will close the current Chat session and long-hold Home will close all apps including an active Chat.
Focus on the UI Mini Map and select the Control’s bumper to open the "Chat Options" menu. Select the "Mute" button. The rest of the Chat will see your icon muted and will not hear you.
Muting Other Users
Focus on the UI Mini Map and select the Control’s bumper to open the "Chat Options" menu. Select that user from the top row portal icons. Select Mute. The rest of the Chat will not see this mute effect.
Blocking a User
Focus on the UI Mini Map and select the Control’s bumper to open the "Chat Options" menu. Select that user from the top row portal icons. Select block. You will no longer see or hear this user in Chat and you will no longer follow them.
Movement in Avatar Chat
There are two ways to move the entire Avatar Chat. After moving the Chat, the Chat volume will attempt to locate and align to your floor plane.
1. Focus on the UI Mini Map and select the Control’s bumper to open the "Chat Options" menu. Select the "Move" button and reposition the whole Chat.
2. Use the hardware short-cut long hold the trigger to pick up the UI Mini Map and reposition the whole Chat.
Casting to Other Users
You can drag and drop any Landscape app that supports Casting into the UI Mini Map. Our Gallery and Helio apps currently support Casting.
Resetting Avatar Heights
If Avatars are appearing at odd heights, please reset the floor location by moving the Chat volume to an area with no obstacles below the UI Mini Map. You should see the Avatar heights readjust once your floor location has been recognized.
What to do if Other Avatars Aren't Appearing
There are a few reasons why you might hear, but not see, the other person’s Avatar. If this happens, you can use the UI Mini Map to help determine what direction the other person is in.
- The other person may be occluded by physical objects in your space. Try to move the avatar chat to an open area.
- You may be too close together.
- They may be outside the Chat volume. When far enough away from the center of the Chat volume, Avatars stop being rendered. You will see a dialog box if you are too far.
Casting Support in Apps
For now, you can Cast the Gallery app and any new Landscape app that has enabled Casting.
We're working on Helio which will be available to Cast soon.
Casting to Other Magic Leap Device Users
Use the bumper to open an app's "App Options" Menu. Select the "Cast' button to invite friends from the Social App. Choose friends from the scrollable list and select the check button to invite them to Cast. Once your friends accept the invite, they will see your app in their Landscape.
Why Your Mesh is Visualized
We display the mesh visualization so that you can see which parts of your space have been mapped and which parts need further mapping in order to synchronize environments. Synchronizing environments allows us to share content between users who are in the same space.
Cannot Pin Cast
We didn’t have enough information to synchronize your environment with the other Cast participant. The Cast will still be displayed, but it might be in a different position for other people. Try moving around your space to create a better environment map. Comical dance moves are highly encouraged.
Unable to Interact with Other Users' Casts
For version 1.0., Casts are 'view-only' and only support input from the original Cast sender. Check back for additional updates.
Sharing Apps or Extracted Content
Use the bumper to open an app's 'App Options' menu. Select the "Cast" button to invite friends. Choose friends from the scrollable list and select the check button to invite them to Cast. Once your friends accept the invite, they will see your app in their Landscape.
