The Desktop Companion App (DCA) is a bridge between a user’s PC (Windows or Mac) and your Magic Leap device. Through the DCA, a user can manage files, access file info, utilize scriptable file plugins with 3rd party apps, and view limited device status.
Magic Leap devices running Lumin OS 0.98.10 (OTA1) will be the first direct connection between PC and the Magic Leap hardware, with many more features to come including device streaming and capture, multiple-monitor integration, technical support and device diagnostics, and a more robust file management system.
Desktop Companion App Overview
Upon the DCA launch, DCA requests that the user sign into their ML ID.
This action sends a permission notification screen to the assigned device and auto-launches the scanning app to initiate the pairing process.
The QR Code is displayed so that the Magic Leap device scanning app may view the DCA QR code and initiate a pairing connection.
The DCA Dashboard shows device status, device hardware info, OS info, connection status, peripheral status, and memory info.
The device selection menu allows a user to pair multiple devices (up to 3) with a single PC and select which device is targeted by the DCA.
The File page of the DCA allows a user to manage on-device files: folder creation and management, file upload/download and naming, and file/folder sorting.
It also provides individual file information: file name, modified date/time, size, and permissions.
3rd Party subscribing apps can either upload files to their own on-device file directory or in the user documents folder.
