Attention: To provide the best possible AR experience for our customers and support our ecosystem moving forward, we are unlocking all enterprise features to all Magic Leap 2 devices in the OS 1.12.0 release.
Users using a Magic Leap 2 with a Developer Pro or Enterprise license running Magic Leap OS 1.3.1 or later are able to setup and use Iris Unlock to unlock their device with their eyes.
Enabling Iris Unlock
Go to "Settings > Security > Device lock". If you haven't already, you will first need to create a PIN or password. The option to enable Iris ID will be grayed out until a PIN or password is created. If you've already created a PIN or password, Iris ID will be available for selection under the "Device lock" options.
Enrolling in Iris Unlock
You will first be prompted to run the "Custom Fit" app. If you've already run Custom Fit, you can choose to skip this. If you haven't, we recommend running the app. After going through the fit process, you will be prompted to to start the Iris enrollment process. Without moving your head, follow each target (the icon is shown below) with your eyes and focus on it until the next target appears.
Press "Next" then press "Start Scan". You'll be asked to focus on shrinking dots that appear on screen. This process will create a reference of your eyes for unlock the device with. If successful, you should see a message saying "You’ve successfully created an Iris ID for {username}".
Enrollment is complete! If you run into issues, refer to the troubleshooting section, or reach out to us directly.
Unlocking Your Device
When putting the device on after it's been locked, you'll be prompted to unlock the device using Iris Unlock. You should see a menu with one button "Iris ID". The menu will say "Welcome back Owner". Click the Iris ID button.
Focus on the target presented. If your iris matches, you'll return to the App Launcher. If the match fails, you can attempt Iris Unlock again or use your PIN.
Iris Unlock is only available when a device is awakening from standby or sleep mode. It is not available when logging into a device after a cold boot.
Troubleshooting Iris Unlock Issues
Iris Scan Unsuccessful
Iris Unlock will not work as expected if your device isn't properly fitted. For more information on properly fitting and wearing your Magic Leap 2, refer to our Wearing Your Magic Leap 2 article.
